Migration Map : Kuaka

For this activity we needed to create a map that shows how long the kuaka birds fly for and where the kuaka birds migrate to.

Kuaka birds, also known as bar-tailed godwits, love to hang out near the water, especially in places like estuaries, mudflats, beaches, and coastal marshes, where they find lots of yummy food.

Every year, as winter approaches, the Kuaka fly north to the breeding grounds of Alaska, stopping off in Korea and Japan for a rest and some food on the way. On the return journey, as our summer approaches, they fly directly to New Zealand, a trip of endurance with no food, water, or rest; nearly 12,000 km non-stop.

Did you know that the Kuaka bird holds the world record for the longest flight?

Dot to Dot connections : The kuaka

LI: To draw the lines between the words to show how the connections you have made.

For this activity, we created a DLO showing our Dot to Dot Connections of the Kuaka Bird. We used the scribble tool to connect each word and write down information that is related to the text. For example : Migration and Habitat (The Kuaka birds migrate from Alaska to NZ to have a safe environment). We used our prior knowledge to figure out some information about the Kuaka Bird. Something we enjoyed while doing this activity was collaborating and communicating to each other to grab different ideas and learn from one another.

The Kuaka

LI: To create an infographic that tells others about the migration of the kuaka

For this task we had worked in our reading groups but had completed this task individually  I enjoyed researching about the kuaka and how they survived.

Something interesting I found out about the Kuaka was the have a nonstop flight from New Zealand to Alaska and they can fly one place to another under a week!! That really amazed me, I had never known there could be a bird breed that strong to fly one place to another under a week.

From this DLO I can see a lot of information about the Kuaka bird appearance, fun facts, habitat and diet talking about where it lives and what it eats and super fun facts about it and when did they come to New Zealand.

Photo story

LI: To understand the concept of visual storytelling

On tuesday our tamariki of Panmure Bridge School went for a walk down our Tamaki river.

Our task for today was to create a collage with many diffrent photos from our hike but our challenge was too place these photos in sequently order. sequently order means to go in time order  for example These photos are represented in time order , like..  we had crossed the road before starting our walk ( first photo top left ).. .. next we walked aside to our left so other people were welcome to walk on the right for more space to walk (second image top right) , and thats what i mean by the photos are placed in time order.

I enjoyed myself when walking and i think everyone else had too!

When walking i noticed many  palm trees and beutifull flowers.

One thing i had liked about our hikoi is seing all the laughter and watching everyone enjoying yourself.

Camp Movie

LI: To create a collage of images or short movie that reflects my time at camp

Click here for the video !

Our camp at Kokako Lodge in Hunua was wonderfull! this is my movie ! I chose these photos because these were the photos that reminieced me about my highlights at camp. My favourite part of camp was doing the talent show  because some people were stage freight but took a step out of their comfort zone and gave it a shot !.I would 100% go to camp again because it was fun getting to know my own class mates more!.

A Moment in time

LI: To write a poem that describes a moment in time

\

At camp we had lots of challenge activities to try. We were sure we chose our words carefully so that we painted a clear picture of what we were describing in the mind of our readers. Amorangi and I have described what it was like to climp the big wooden log ,  We chose this challenge because we both could understand how it felt to go on the high beam and how scary the experience was.

Exploring A.I

LI: To identify and understand how descriptive language is used to create a clear picture of a setting in a text.

Before|

After

This is the image I created using the Adobe Express. I found this activity challenging because it was hard trying to figure out what we could put on our alley way picture but I found it fun because the after results looked really fascanating !

Something I learnt when using prompts for AI is to use as much details as I could to get a very interesting results!.

Pepeha

LI: To let others know who I am so they can make connections to me and my place in the world.

Heres the link to my video !

Our challenge for this activity was to write and record our pepeha to introduce ourselves.

I found this fascanating because I got to actually learn more about myself  because growing up I didn’t even know what a pepeha was , I went back home for some help with my mum to see if she could help me with my pepeha , I never knew much about my Maori side but I am proud I do now!.

What Samuel Marsden saw…

LI: To use the information in the diary extract to create an image of what we think Samuel Marsden saw when he sailed down the Tamaki awa.

Before|

After|

We used Adobe Express to use our imagination to discover what we think Samuel Marsden would’ve seen passing the tamaki river , We thought including and old church above the hill , fences , cows  and removing houses by covering it with trees would be clever because in our minds we thought there would be been cows in the olden days with old canoes and many many trees!.One thing ive learnt was ducks have been around for centuries ( or at least 25 million years) so that’s why we decided to put ducks in the water!

I enjoyed working with adobe express because there is many experience with A.I including how popular A.I is , I suggest you should start working with adobe express too !.

Kokako Bird

LI: To use our smart searching skills

Our Year 7/8 camp was at Kokako Lodge in Hunua. Our challenge was to use our smart searching skills to find out about the kokako bird and create an infographic to share the facts we researched in our own words  , A story I found interesting about the kokako bird was ”Maori legend says , Maui the powerfull demigod was fighting the sun, and he asked the birds for water. The kokako wich is a blue wattled bird filled its wattles with water and brought it to Maui. later then Maui gift the birds with long strong legs for easily leaping through the forest”.

I enjoyed communicating with my partner because we already had gotten both our brains ready for a fresh start for school!.
